Fellow Republicans,

Just a quick reminder that our County Convention to elect the next Washtenaw County Executive Committee is tomorrow (Thursday) at 7:00 PM. Please see below for more details along with an attached list of the registered candidates and their statements detailing their credentials for your consideration.

I also wanted to write to you all about the importance of making wise decisions when electing our future executive committee but have instead included a letter from our Membership Manager, Annette Kennedy that I believe very eloquently touches on all the points I wanted to relate to you.

From Annette Kennedy:

The Importance of Electing Dedicated, Hard-working Republicans to the Executive Committee

In the last 12 months, in an attempt to support our Republican agenda in Washtenaw County, I have participated in many volunteer activities. Together, with some fellow Patriots, we did energize many Republicans within our county. We did raise awareness regarding the injurious proposals on our November ballot. We did promote our candidates, passionately. But we did not do enough, and the Democrats did even more to promote their ideals than we.

The Executive Committee is already taking into account the things that must be improved upon in the next election cycle. I would like to emphasize what I feel should be known by all: we cannot have an Executive Committee which is made up of people who only wish to dictate the actions of the entire group while leaving the hard but necessary work of the Executive Committee to a few dedicated, over-worked individuals. We must elect people who are qualified, able and passionate about promoting our ideals, beliefs and candidates throughout their communities and our county!

While I was knocking on doors, manning headquarters and making calls, I was usually accompanied by only 3-4 volunteers from our party (we had approximately 15-20 volunteers, total). This cannot continue, and this attitude certainly cannot overtake our Executive Committee. Are you familiar with our mission statement? “We are dedicated to selecting, assisting, and endorsing qualified candidates for public positions who demonstrate leadership and integrity.” (Emphasis added.)

How does one assist our candidates if he/she is unwilling to volunteer? A group of people sitting in a meeting with like-minded individuals once each month can indeed offer some support to our candidates and our cause, but not nearly enough. If you are to be a member of the Executive Committee you must be willing to dedicate your time, make the effort and you must be willing to lead by example, as these are leadership positions. Please consider this heavily and vote for qualified, dedicated persons who will actually work to fulfill the mission of the Washtenaw County Republicans.

Thank you!

Annette C. Kennedy
